Frye Gaillard has published more than 30 books, been inducted into the Alabama Writers Hall of Fame, and served as Writer in Residence at the University of South Alabama, Queens University of Charlotte, and the Honors College at Historically Black Johnson C. Smith University. As a History major at Vanderbilt University during the turbulent 60s, Gaillard honed his writing skills as a reporter for The Vanderbilt Hustler and helped bring influential speakers – including Robert F. Kennedy – to campus as the Impact Symposium chair.
“Being at Vanderbilt during the 60s, writing about those turbulent times, helping to bring Impact speakers to campus all set me on my career path and gave me hope for a better world,” he said. Gaillard recently completed co-editing a book with North Carolina scholar Mark West entitled “The Literary Legacy of Jimmy Carter.” In 2023, he co-edited another book with fellow Vanderbilt graduate and former football star, Pat Toomay, entitled “A Word on Words: The Best of John Seigenthaler’s Interviews,” published by Vanderbilt Press.
