Cierra Lockett recently shared her journey from VSC to her current roles as a writer, adjunct professor of screenwriting, and assistant in original programming at a TV network.
Cierra, who majored in Communication Studies and Psychology, worked at Vanderbilt Television as a host for Reel to Reel and The Vanderbilt Hustler as a Lifestyle Columnist.
“Vanderbilt Television taught me how to write, shoot, edit, and package a show independently, as well as how to contribute ideas and step in to help others as part of a team,” she said. “The Hustler taught me the ins and outs of working with editors, interviewees, and readers with different perspectives.”
In February 2024, she signed with Root Literary as her agency. From March to July 2022, Cierra was selected as a writer for the CBS Studios Pipeline Challenge and featured with the cohort in Variety. What advice would Cierra offer to current VSC students?
“Create the life that feels good to you. Not everyone has the privilege of making their dreams a reality, and it’s okay for those dreams to change as you do. It’s always better to have tried, no matter how far or how long you go in your endeavors than to regret that you never did.”
